One to finally check off!

Last March during spring break Ken and I bought some paint to finish off our upstairs — the entry and hallway.  The weather was yucky with bad lighting and we never got around to doing it.  Yesterday I decided to get it done.  I was tired of looking at marked walls and cheap paint from the builder.

So I pulled out the painter’s tape and discovered that Taylor had been using it for his skateboard stuff.  Hmm, not enough to get all the door frames taped off but that’s what I have my edger for, right?  I got two walls done this morning and realized that I wouldn’t have enough paint.  Darn it, I’d forgotten how porous new walls can be and that it soaks in.  So I dragged Taylor and Jocelyn off the trampoline and headed to Wal*Mart to purchase another gallon of my Antique White latex semi-gloss interior paint.  After an hour of perusing the rest of the store and adding a lamp to the cart as well as more painter’s tape, a cute snowman ornament and Santa hat for Jocelyn (hey, it was 50% off!), we headed back home to finish my job.  I finished in time for Ken to come home with Wesley and then I ordered Domino’s Pizza for dinner.  At least that’s one project I can now check off my to do list!!

Wanna know how to keep kids occupied. . .

for hours and hours on end??  Taylor, Jocelyn and Wesley earned their way (with their grades) to a trampoline.  I’m not kidding you, they have spent hours out there bouncing around.  Yesterday Taylor was jumping around in his boxer shorts and slipper socks and it was below freezing! Even Ken got in on the action!

Progressive Christmas Eve

In year’s past, our family tradition has been to go to church then go out to eat with my parents and my brothers and their families. Last year, Ken came up with another idea — the progressive Christmas Eve. This year it has become a reality. Since it is so hard to have a conversation in a restaurant, our first course will be at Darren and Cheri’s co-hosted by David and Nancy. Each location will have food and an activity designed to keep the children occupied. Course two will be at my parents’ house and dessert will be at our house. Our offerings? Fudge (bought, not homemade), pumpkin pie (courtesy of Ken and Jocelyn), a birthday cake for Jesus (courtesy of Betty Crocker but I did at least mix it up and stick it in the oven), and sugar cookies (which will be decorated by the children as their activity). Oh yeah, the cookies are courtesy of Betty Crocker as well, 2/$3.00 with a $.50 off coupon!! At least I did roll out the dough and used my cookie cutters to make shapes with them. . .

Pizza Party

My class had a little party for me Friday afternoon since that was my official last day in 5th grade. Next week I’ll be doing some more observations. We ordered Pizza Hut pizza (which was 30 minutes late) and the kids brought Doritos, cookies, cake, pop, etc. They gave me some wonderfully touching cards and a bag of goodies to use in my very own classroom! Now I have stickers, a timer, pens, crayons, notepads, etc. all to myself! I can’t wait for my very own classroom. . . but I’ll have more on that next week. Stay posted!!
