Runway Run

It’s finally the weekend and after a very long and rainy week, Saturday dawned the same way — dreary with the possibility of rain.  I was disappointed as we had been planning to participate in Raytheon’s, um, I mean Hawker Beechcraft’s (they were bought officially as of Monday, March 26th), Runway Run and Health and Fitness Fair.  We decided to brave the windy weather and headed to the runway.  We did this last year too and the kiddos loved it.  Today, Ken managed to run the whole way with a great time.  Jocelyn trotted along beside my mother, who’s quite the fast speedwalker.  My Dad and Taylor stayed together for the most part.  Wesley was attached to my arm in the hopes that he wouldn’t get blown down the runway! Mom and Dad were pleasantly surprised when they were told they had won 2nd place in their age group!

After the race we headed inside for free healthy snacks like bananas, oranges, and apples with bottled water, compliments of GMAC Mortgage.  We joined the lines of people going up and down the rows of tables collecting freebies and health information.  Armed with our bags, we collected pencils, pens, notepads, candy (what, healthy?!), and any other giveaways.  Hawker Beechcraft also provided bouncy castles and games for the kids although the ones for outdoors couldn’t be put up due to the windy weather.  Lunch was also provided.  Later in the afternoon there was an Easter Egg Hunt and pictures with the Bunny.  We didn’t stay around for the Easter Egg Hunt but my parents took Jocelyn and Wesley.  They came back with a ridiculous amount of candy.  Who says we need the Bunny to visit us next week?  They’ll be on a sugar high all week as it is anyway!

It’s SPRING BREAK!!!

And what a spring break it’s been so far. Wesley’s had diarrhea or vomiting since Monday (finally cleared up today — Thursday), Taylor’s had a sore throat and bit of a fever, and it’s been raining. Yick.

On the other hand, I’ve got a new book, thanks to my friend Malena Lott. I ordered What You Wear Can Change Your Life by Trinny Woodall and Susannah Constantine. It’s a lot like the show here What Not to Wear and I love their British humor. They have even got me tidying out my drawers and closets with no excuses as to why those clothes were even in there! My mother wants to borrow it when I’m done! Check out Malena’s website for her version of it: www.athenaknows.com

I’ve even managed to get caught up on some of my scrapbooking. I’m a fair way through 2006 now and I’ve even ordered all of what I’ve taken so far in 2007 so I can start that album when the urge strikes. It’s so rewarding that even though it’s time-consuming, I doubt I’ll give it up.

Tonight I’m looking forward to going to the Y and working out. I didn’t go yesterday due to the boys being ill.  That and Ken and I have an episode of Jericho to watch from yesterday.  Ahhh, the joys of TiVo :)

A Little THC at the Y

Today Ken and I went to visit Tanner at the Y for our Total Health Consultation. We figured we were pretty healthy, which fortunately our heart rate and blood pressure confirmed. Our BMI needs some work, which we already knew. We also learned where our target heartrates needed to be for an optimum workout. We tried out some machines–the arc something-or-another, the elliptical trainer, and the bike. Our next session is scheduled for April 5th where hopefully, we’ll see some progress. After our 45 minute session we headed upstairs and did a quick workout, me on the arc and Ken on the treadmill.

Ruby Anniversary

A rarity these days — my parents celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary this past Sunday, March 11. Here’s a picture of them on their happy day 40 years ago — March 11, 1967.

Countdown ’til SPRING BREAK!!!

Okay, the weather is starting to warm up (it was 74 degrees today), I’m yearning for capri pants, sandals, and painted toe nails, it’s time for SPRING BREAK!!  The kiddos are officially off beginning Friday.  Not me–I have an inservice day where I have to write grade cards :(   I am, however, off all of the next week!  Any suggestions as to how to keep a 10, 7, and 4-1/2 year old occupied all week without killing each other?  If so, let me know!

Having fun at the Y-M-C-A

A long, long, long time ago we were Y members.  This weekend, as a part of their Pay the Day promotion, we joined again for a mere $3 (it was March 3rd).  We thought that maybe since the kiddos were older, we’d be able to use it more.  Thanks to a 10% discount for USD 259 employees and payroll deduction, we’re now set up.

Yesterday afternoon we went and dropped Taylor off in the family center and Jocelyn and Wesley off in Kid Zone before heading upstairs to the track.  Tonight we also went.  Let’s hope the novelty doesn’t wear off but the weight does!  We had to drag Taylor away from the pool table and Jocelyn has already announced she wants to go tomorrow, although she has Brownies.  Apparently this is a good thing!
