it pays to shop around

I’ve been meaning to check into another provider for our home insurance for quite some time and I was motivated to work on some of my goals over the weekend.  This was one of them.  It didn’t help that I got a notice from our mortgage company saying that we didn’t have enough in our escrow account and that our mortgage payment was going up yet AGAIN.  After checking with our auto provider, Progressive, who now offers home insurance in our area, they quoted me a rate more than $750 less than our current insurer, Travelers.  A no-brainer, I’m currently in the process of switching companies.  If you haven’t checked around in awhile, I highly suggest that you do.  Rates are more competitive than ever and you could be saving yourself a LOT of money!  I was dancing a jig most of the afternoon yesterday!!

a path across Kellogg

Okay, so you may think that we’re really weird.  I had mentioned to Ken a couple of weeks ago as we were driving down Kellogg coming back from church that in the 20+ years that I’ve been living in Wichita, I’ve never gone across the paths that go over the road.  This afternoon Ken suggested that we do just that.  So after spending the afternoon at Cowtown, we parked in a parking lot by the path and headed across.

Jocelyn was rather scared at the beginning but by the time she got to the middle she was dancing on the path!  She waved at the passersby beneath and got honked at several times.  The boys just ran and ran and ran, stopping long enough for me to take a picture of the two of them before they ran off to the car.  A great way for the boys to run off some steam and we had the path to ourselves!

A Trip to Cowtown

Our family has a season pass to Cowtown and since the weather was absolutely glorious for February, we headed there this afternoon.  We always learn something new every time we visit and today was no exception.  In the Print Shop we were reminded about upper and lower case letters but we also learned that the print shop guys could put together 30 words per minute with the little tiles!  When we went to the farm and met Rosie, the cow, we also learned about the process they go through to get the corn ready.  Rosie got really excited when she saw what we were doing and thought she was going to get a treat.  The Victorian dancers were a nice treat as were the sarsparillas from the saloon.  The gun show rounded out our afternoon at Cowtown.  There were very few people there which was good for us but bad for them.  It’s such a fascinating museum that more people should really check it out!

The kids like to pose by the entrance’s horses but Taylor wouldn’t have any part of it today.  He was still sulking about his hair cut.  In a lawyer’s office museum on the main street.

The Meat shop was an interesting one with all of the boys getting in on the dead animals!

I’m sure Ken’s shot will be really interesting!  The kids try the nifty “machine” that takes the corn kernels off the cob.

This “treadmill” is actually for a horse, but that didn’t stop the family from checking it out!

It was a lovely, bright day and we enjoyed the sunshine and then drinks in the saloon.

Feeding the ducks

In an effort to spend more quality time with the children, after church today we went to the park to feed the ducks/geese.  I had been keeping some stale bread, crackers, and even a tortilla especially for the occasion and since the weather was so nice yesterday, it seemed the perfect time!  We didn’t get around to going yesterday so we went today (Ken got called in to work and wasn’t with us.)  Apparently they hadn’t been fed for awhile and there was a huge group waiting on the half-frozen lake and the banks.  The children enjoyed it so much, I’ll have to remember to do it more often!

Wesley really got into throwing his bread!  This white goose came right up to me honking away.  It scared Jocelyn and she ran back to the car!

A group shot before we left for home – they really DID have fun, even though this picture doesn’t show it!

I love my church!

Our family has been attending Central Community Church on and off since 1998.  Since we live on the opposite side of town we have, on occasion, be tempted to change churches but we really enjoy Central too much!  Pastor John is wonderful, the congregation is friendly, and I like what they’re doing for the community and touching other lives.  We have been attending their contemporary service for quite some time and the music is so incredible, it’s hard to describe!

In January we began the One Month to Live series and we have been challenged to live like it’s out last month on Earth.  I am learning what I truly value in life and making that my priority.  You’re welcome to join us or check out the website and hear Pastor John!
