Great Santa Run

Want a fabulous way to enjoy the Christmas season?  Run a race!  My daughter and I ran this 5K last year and really enjoyed it so we decided to do it again. Last year the weather was drizzly, in the 50’s with (what I thought) low attendance for an inaugural race. This year there were about 500 (or so they announced!), overcast, and about 47 degrees. Not too shabby for a December morning and conditions that hopefully would let me improve my Personal Best (PB). Besides, seeing all of the runners wearing crazy costumes and jingle bells is quite entertaining. (Although I was running by a guy with so many jingles that I had to pass him because it was driving me CRAZY, even with my headphones in!)

So, I gave it all I had and was surprised when the guy cutting off my timing chip from my shoe said I was one of a couple of women who had finished, particularly since I did not make a PB.  Hmm, at least I passed the guy with tight shorts with Always Naughty printed across his rear end. After cheering my daughter across the line, we headed to the results tent.

My daughter earned 2nd in her age group and I earned 2nd woman finisher and this awesome plaque! Not sure if Masters means old or not, but whatever! The other lady who got the other plaque was only 2 seconds in front of me – 2 seconds – and she was 31 – much younger than I.

Couldn’t resist a pic with Santa with our new bling!

Great race, great morning, and the rain held off until later that afternoon. We really enjoy races put on by the KC Running Company.  They’re well done, organized with cool medals and race wear.  This year we got scarves although neither daughter or I wore them for the race. Instead, we wore last year’s race shirts instead.  I think we’ll do Battle of the Beans again in January and hope there’s not a snow storm like last year!
